Mexican pottery and planters can be found in so many different colors and designs. Depending on what part of Mexico you look, you will find design exclusive to that region. But in reality, Mexican pottery is a craft that is fuel by American and Mexican farmers, landscaping companies and individuals.

But let’s look at what are the truths and myths about Mexican pottery. Italian pottery or clay is made in same method that Mexican pottery is made. The difference between the two is that, Italian clay is lighter, stronger and has more form than Mexican clay. The truth is that the clay, depending in the location in the world, is usually the same.

For example, we have placed a Mexican Urn and an Italian Urn, we find that the design is that same, but the quality is much different. Let see what the differences are.

Now answer me this question, why would you buy the cheaper of the two? I know, because of availability. I understand this, and of course you can also see the differences. But what if I could tell you that what I offer is the same quality as the Italian Pottery, and that the price is the same or cheaper.

For the past year I have been importing 100% clay pottery made in Mexico with a new style and look never seen in the United States. As a matter of fact, not even considered in Mexico. The reason behind this is that Mexican Pottery has always been the red-headed step child to the rest of the pottery community. Even great Mexican and Latin American artist still use a high concentration of clay and dirt mixtures for their art work. Please don’t get me wrong, they are beautiful works of art and should be values for their beauty and not by what they are made of.

In one of my visits to a pottery merchant, I came upon a piece of pottery. The urn was about 7 feet tall, painted white with blue print. This piece was valued over 10,000 dollars. The funny thing about this is that it probably only cost 100 dollars to make this particular pottery The funny thing about this story is that when I introduced my products to the vender, he informed me that most of his customer would not be interested in my product, just because is was “typical" of Mexican pottery. But his product was made by typical Mexican artist, with a bad blend of off white color and a bad blue print. I guess wealthy people only by merchandise that is second class or second pick. Second pick is a topic that we will discuss later.
